The workers of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, in a peaceful protest, stormed the office of the Rector alleging illegal deductions from their salaries amounting to the sum of 250million naira by the management.
The protest was led by the leaders of the three unions of the institution; the Non Academic Staff Union, the Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnic, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, as well as the members.
Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian polytechnics, Dr. Ayeni Oluwole, said that the school management must ensure total payment of all the money deducted so far from the workers’salaries with immediate effect.
Also, the Chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union, Adekunle Adeniyi, also stressed the urgent need for a change in the leadership of the institution.
The Rector, Taiwo Akande, appealed to the unions to be patient, as their demands would be met as soon as it is approved by the Federal Government.
She further stressed that the lecturers should also consider the students as the strike already embarked on by the unions would not in anyway do them good.
With the indefinite strike embarked on by the unions, academic activities in the institution have been shut down. They said that the situation would remain till their demands are met.
