THE African Bar Association, AFBA, has threatened to file criminal charges against the South African Government before the United Nations Security Council, if it fails to stop the xenophobic attacks against other Africans in that country.
The association, in a statement by its President, Hannibal Uwaifo, demanded the South African Government to pay adequate compensation to the affected persons and ensure that those involved in the killings were prosecuted.
Noting that the xenophobic attack was the latest in the frequent attacks on foreigners in South African, AFBA said: “It is very sad that the South African Government has been reluctant to deal decisively with these criminal acts and this has emboldened the miscreants to further desecrate the African hospitality and brotherhood.
“AFBA will not hesitate to file criminal complaints against the South African Government if concrete actions are not taken to bring the perpetrators to justice because the wave of attacks on fellow Africans is wicked and a total negation of the traditional African hospitality.”
